3 mile warm up
9 x 1k (3:12-3:18)
2 mile cool down
Took the train from the Wharf to Kentish Town giving zero thought to the fact that Track might be closed given the inclement weather of late. Turned out to be the case, a quick check of e-mails earlier would have helped the situation given that 10 of them related to the session moving to Regent Park's inner (1k) loop a couple miles jog away ...
In fact, turned out not to be that bad of a situation. Decent warm up for a couple of miles up over Primrose Hill and down into Regent's Park, just past London Zoo. The inner loop is a superb session in icy conditions given that its a treated surface, not that that does a thing for the air temperature though - it must be have been a few degrees negative. It took until the 4th 1k effort (of 9) for the tips of fingers to come alive again (they did get quite painful). Good turn out, must have been 8-10 of us pounding around the loop, off a rough 60s recovery so a solid session which I need more of. Good to see Rich Scott tagging an effort or two on the back of what was probably a 40 mile tempo run...
Somewhat messed up the timings given that the fingers were too cold to actually press the 'lap' button on the Garmin but one can't be too displeased with laps between 3.12-3.18, even if I did blow up somewhat on the last one (particularly given the conditions). Fortunately no niggles, and felt for once like there was a change of pace somewhere in there.
Had a nice cool down (literally ... the temperature continued to plummet) out of the Park, down Baker Street, through Mayfair to Hyde Park Corner before jumping on the tube. Good first session of the week, just need to get Thursday and Saturday's race (Surrey League) in now with good mileage around it all.
